Compensation: $35.00/hour plus mileage
Summary
Assist students in learning the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible individuals. Create conditions that will encourage and stimulate learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Be professionally and personally responsible for the order and progress of classes under his/her authority direction and supervision.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of each student.
- Prepare lessons for students assigned and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques, technology and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth using a variety of data sources; keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the division’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Select and requisition books and instructional materials and supplies and maintain required inventory records.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy, and administrative procedures.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals established by the Virginia Standards of Learning, in harmony with the goals establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the job tasks.
- Possess knowledge of teaching and instruction of the grade level or subjects assigned, with the use of effective techniques.
- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the subject(s) being taught.
- Demonstrate the ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and well written communication; and, to interact effectively with parents, pupils, other teachers, administrators, classified employees, and the community.
- Ability to operate computers to design graphics and other written materials.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal content.
- Evaluate students fairly on stated objectives.
- Demonstrate professionalism by working cooperatively with other staff members; using support services when needed; ensuring that oral communications are clear, accurate, and grammatically correct; respecting the confidential nature of professional information; grading and recording tests and major assignments within a reasonable length of time; submitting reports accurately and punctually, resolving discipline problems in accordance with individual school guidelines; and complying with administrative directives and school board policy.
- Demonstrate self-control in the interaction with the school community.
- Demonstrate good work habits to include punctual and regular attendance and efficient use of time.
- Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literatures.
- Ability to work with and cooperate with supervisory staffs at all levels.
- Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence, by keeping abreast of current educational trends.
- Additional duties or responsibilities may be assigned based on level or subject taught as assigned by principal.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent, or designee.
- Instruction could occur in the student's home,community space or virtually.
Qualifications
Must hold appropriate Virginia Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement in assigned subject area.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or public.
Reasoning/Other Abilities
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Physical Demands
Work involves operation of office equipment and limited physical tasks. Above-average amount of walking, bending, standing, stooping, and lifting in a classroom environment.
