Reports to:       Supervisor of Bus Garage Operations

 

Summary

Performs mechanical maintenance on school buses, school board vehicles and equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

 

Qualifications

Possess the qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with others. Hold a valid Virginia Driver’s License with CDL endorsement, State Inspection certificate, ASE certification preferred.  Must be able to operate all vehicle types used in the division.

 

Education and/or Experience

Possess a high school diploma or equivalent; One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively.

 

 

 

 

Reasoning/Other Abilities

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock, outside weather conditions and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
