Job Title: Coordinator of Assessment and Remediation

FLSA Status: Exempt                 Employment Status: Non-Classified            License Required:      Yes  (DOE)

 

Reports to: Building Principal 

 

Summary

The Coordinator of Assessment and Remediation will be responsible for managing and coordinating the school's assessment programs and supporting remediation efforts to improve student performance. This role requires the development, implementation, tracking, and evaluation of assessments to identify learning gaps and support students who need additional academic interventions. The coordinator will work closely with teachers, counselors, parents,  administrators, and other educational professionals to create data-driven strategies for improving student success including promotion and graduation.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Design, implement, and manage the school’s assessment calendar, ensuring that state and district assessments are administered effectively.
  • Create and maintain detailed testing schedules for all standardized assessments, including state tests, AP exams, PSAT/SAT, and other district-wide assessments.
  • Oversee the setup and breakdown of testing locations, ensuring that all materials, resources, and equipment are properly organized and available.
  • Implement and enforce security measures to protect the integrity of test materials and prevent any unauthorized access or cheating incidents.
  • Coordinate and ensure all testing accommodations for students with IEPs, 504 plans, and ELL needs are properly arranged and executed in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Train proctors, teachers, and other staff involved in testing on protocols, accommodations, and security procedures.
  • Oversee the smooth administration of tests, troubleshoot any issues that arise, and adjust plans as needed to accommodate unforeseen challenges.
  • Ensure accurate collection, validation, and submission of test data to state and district offices.
  • Organize and prepare all testing materials, including booklets, answer sheets, calculators, and other resources, and ensure their secure distribution and return.
  • Compile and interpret assessment data and assessment participation rate to provide actionable insights to teachers, staff, and administrators.
  • Assist teachers in using data to inform instruction and to develop targeted interventions.
  • Design and implement remediation programs for students identified as needing academic interventions.
  • Oversee all aspects of managing specific remediation programs to include scheduling, staffing, and attendance tracking
  • Monitor student progress in remediation programs and adjust strategies as needed to maximize student success.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement individualized or small group instruction to address learning gaps.
  • Assist in submitting a request for SPLAVC-locally awarded verified credits for recovery.
  • Coordinate Tier II and Tier III interventions, working with Subject Area Specialists and Administrators and other professionals to create personalized learning plans.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities to staff on assessment best practices, data analysis, and intervention strategies.
  • Stay informed of current educational trends, research, and legal requirements related to assessments and remediation.
  • Coordinate meetings with teachers, counselors, administrators, and specialists to review student progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
  • Serving as a member of, and providing data for, the school's Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP) team and Academic Achievement Team (AAT)

 

Education and/or Experience

Minimum requirement is to have a bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction or a related field.  A minimum of three to five years in teaching in an SOL testing grade or content area, educational assessment, or curriculum development; experience working with remediation or intervention programs is preferred.

 

Language Skills

Appropriate college level skills for all subject areas.  Correct grammar in all communication is expected.

 

Reasoning/Other Abilities

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and create actionable plans. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to lead and collaborate with diverse groups of educators.  Proficient use of technology and data management tools related to assessments.  Knowledge of state and federal education laws and regulations.

 

Physical Demands

Capable of traveling from school to school.

Capable of carrying heavy items, i.e. laptop computer, LCD projector,

textbooks, instructional kits, and other equipment.

 

Work Environment

Based in one building, but must visit all schools and report to central office 

frequently.

 

Evaluation

Performed by building level Principal in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
